10 Discontinued KFC Items We Wish Would Return
5. Kentucky Roast Beef
By the mid-1960s, Kentucky Fried Chicken was one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in America. But it was also facing competition from upstarts like Chick-Fil-A and Church's. In1968, KFC decided to diversify and began offering roast beef sandwiches, both at pre-existing stores and at standalone Kentucky Roast Beef outposts. However, KFC couldn't get enough chicken die-hards to switch to roast beef. The price was a big issue: a single Roast Beef Sandwich would cost almost the same as a Fried Chicken Sandwich Combo, which included a sandwich, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a biscuit. A few franchised outlets sold the sandwiches into the '70s, but KFC's tasty roast beef has been gone for decades now.
