How Did All These Foods Get Their Misleading Names?
Peanuts are nuts?
Though "nut" is in their name, peanuts are actually a legume. Like chickpeas, black beans, and other legumes, peanuts are the seeds grown in a pod. Nutrition-wise, they are full of unsaturated fats and fiber, just like other nuts. Peanuts also are quite different from other legumes because they grow underground instead of on vines or shrubs. So it's not your fault to categorize peanuts as a nut at all!
