Toscana
Tuscany is the home of the Italian Renaissance, from architecture, sculpture and paintings to food and wine. It has also seen hundreds of years of tribal wars fought between rival families from the hills of Siena to the river town of Florence. The Sangiovese grape is king in this region and is the nucleus to the famous wines of Chianti, Montalcino and Montepulciano.

Piemonte
Piemonte constitutes the foothills of the Italian Alps. Steep terraced banks at 1500-2000 feet above the sea level are home to three major grape varietals. The most prominent of which is the Nebbiolo, followed by Barbera and Dolcetto. Nebbiolo is a derivative of nebbia meaning "fog" in Latin. Each morning the fog shrouded hills acts as a blanket of protection to the grape vines. This fog helps extend the growing season, providing winemakers with exceptional mature fruit to produce world-class wines.

Sardegna
Sardinians have sharply reduced vineyards and volume of production recently while notably improving the general quality of their wines.Vineyards in the rugged eastern coastal range are noted for rich, red Cannonau, a relative of the Granacha brought from Spain.

Abruzzo
A rough and rustic region, on the Adriatic Sea, Abruzzo is sprinkled with mountains, valleys and gorges all bathed in verdant foliage. Most likely introduced by the Etruscans, winegrowing in Abruzzo dates back to around the 6th century BC. Today this mountainous region with favorable growing conditions is undergoing a gradual transition from bulk-wine production to bottled, boutique wines, offering DOC and classified wines based on varietals Montepulciano and Trebbiano.

Campania
Ancient Romans favored the vineyards along the coast north of Naples where Falernian, the most treasured wine of the empire, was grown. They also praised the wines of volcanic Vesuvius and the wooded hills of Avellino. Earlier, the Greeks recognized the privileged nature of the place, introducing vines which still stand out today. Until recently, it seemed wine producers had forgotten about the glories of the past, as growers left the land and winemakers largely ignored DOC. But now, after a long lapse, Campania is undergoing a revival that has dramatically improved quality.

Puglia
Puglia, the heel of the Italian boot, is a long, relatively level region with a prolific production of wine. Salento is a peninsula of low, rolling hills that extends between the Adriatic and Ionian seas to the easternmost point of Italy. The region's traditional wines are the powerful, inky reds from Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. Primitivo di Manduria, the early ripening variety of Salento is related to California's Zinfandel.

Sicilia
Sicily is the largest island in the mediterranean with more vineyards than any other Italian region. Recently, prominent wine houses from northern and central Italy have invested in vineyard land in Sicily. The current focus is on quality over quantity over quantity with an emphasis on reduced yields and modern trellising.

Super Tuscans
In 1968 an experimental batch of wine was produced in Tuscany using non-traditional grape types more commonly used in Bordeaux and California. Namely, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. This unconventional use of grapes in Tuscany fell outside the governing bodies naming convention, and therefore could only be categorized as "Vino da Tavola" or table wine. Now three decades later, we refer to these wines as Super Tuscans. They are world-class in every sense and represent the finest within this "new" category.

Veneto
The Veneto region has completed a major comeback in terms of high quality wine production. The region is one of the first to recognize their ability to grow outstanding varietals such as Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Noir. While at the same time dramatically improving their indigenous grape varietals which lend to utstanding Amarone della Valpolicella. A wine built with a combination of fresh and dried Rondinella, Corvina and Molinara grapes, the only region in the world to do so.
