Types of Hot Pepper Powder and Substitutes
Cayenne pepper powder
- Comes from a single variety of small, bright red pepper
- It is the main ingredient of red chili powder (ground red pepper) and adds heat to the spice blend.
- Many hot sauces also rely on cayenne pepper for their kick, especially if they also contain vinegar.
- Substitute with spicy paprika powder or red pepper flakes (though the latter one has a different texture).
